Is there any clam that will do ok with only t-5s?

The question is... How many T5's, what wattage, and how deep is your tank ?
It would also depend on the species of clam. I would not suggest ANY Crocea's as they are the most light demanding. Squamosa's on the other hand can be more forgiving and maybe, depending on the questions above, you could get away with it.

To give you an idea, my Crocea sits 6 inches from the top of my tank, directly under a 250w MH that is 6 inches off the water. It is as happy as a clam.

You can have Derasas for sure. I even have a Crocea that does great in VHO's. Yeh I always hear that it is all about your lighting, but since I have been able to keep perfect water quality, I have had Acros growng in my tank. I also have growth on my Crocea. {Look Ma No Halides!!} LOL.
