If fish are jumping out of aquariums, I was wondering what you'd use to prevent it.

Is there a kind of mesh you'd recommend, or would a solid top on the tank be better?

well my friend goby and some wrasse are the ones that will jump out of the tank. to prevent do caves with your live rock!
you can also use glasstops but if you use strong pc or halides will burn you tank!! home depot sells the plastic mesh like the ones that we usualy use on the wet/dry but it covers the uv from light.

In our condo, as we plan a tank we have to keep in mind that there are three cats who are pretty athletic when it comes to jumping up on things.

I have a killifish in my aquarium at home. I like it because it's peaceful and brightly colored. Killifish are known to jump out of the aquarium so I keep a good tight fitting lid. I think you can do the same thing in your aquarium Ricardo.

Nothing beats a quality hood for your tank. When I first got started I had that problem. I remember my first fishbowl when I was a kid. Our guppie had babies and she jumped out. It was so funny at the time, because it seemed as though she was trying to get away from her babies.

I used a mesh, It kept them safe and in the tank

I agree with having a quality hood on your tank. THat should prevent the fish from jumping out. Let's face it, there are fish that are jumpers.

You can also use egg crate to put on the top of tanks. My 110 is an open top and I love it. I wouldn't want to think what kind of tempature my tank would run w/a canopy. I do plan to eventually add egg crate just in case.

We had that problem when I was a kid, but as an adult I haven't had that issue because I'm particular about tank set up and equipment, I try to get the best tank cover.

I have a nice hood on my tank with I would say about 4 inches in the back and my percula clown still managed to jump out and commit suicide as well as a blenny.
