I am interested in starting my own aquarium. What hardware and supplies will I need for certain?

Well, there are a few little things you must consider, like if you are gonna keep corals in the tank and what type fo corals.
But basically you will need:

Protein Skimmer
Sand
Saltmix to prepare the water
Lightning
heater or chiller depending on your situation
hydrometer or refractometer to measure the salt and oxygen in the water

Basically that's it, any other hardware would be needed depending on many other factors.
