Default An example of an FOWLR tank
125 gallon fish only with live rock saltwater tank. 140 lbs of live rock with 2 ocellaris
clowns, 3 blue green chromis, yellow tang, sailfin tang, yellow eye kole tang, carribean
blue tang, lawnmower blenny, 2 firefish, royal gramma, foxface lo, green mandarin, 2
emerald mithrax crabs, 25 reef hermit crabs, 1 large hermit crab, 6 scarlet skunk cleaner
shrimps, 4 mexican turbo snails, 4 black nassarius snails.

Thanks for the link to the video. That's a beautiful population of fish.

I'm not sure if this is the best place for a newbie question, but what is the definition of "live rock"?

Thank's for the information reeferlady.

My own aquarium at home have live rocks. It's simply a rock from the ocean that serves as my decoration because of it's bright color. It's very useful because it filters saltwater aquarium.

For sure readers will learn lot of things about live rock in here especially to all newbies in this board. The live rock enhances the appearance of the aquarium. Is there any link where we can buy it online?

Thanks Fizz. I have heard about people taking their own live rock from the ocean, and I've also heard about some "stowaways" that caused problems later on.

is cheaper geting LR from your LFS. you will probably paid a litter more but you can hand pick,and have a better idea to set you tank and probably cure!!!

i know a company that took "live rock" from tampa bay and put it in a law firms tank they were contracted to maintain...there was so much phosphates and crap all over and in the rock it killed everything in the tank. the tank had 2 huge protein skimmers in it and they did no good. Funny thing was the firm found out that the company that got the rock from the bay was doing it illegaly (state law says no collection of any rock of any sort in the state of florida and the keys without permit).well they nailed the crap out of the company found out they had a buisness of doing this,well this happend a couple of years ago and i still think there in jail. If your gonna take rock from the water get the good stuff not the crap in the bays !!!!!! just thought i would share this little story with everyone

There is Tampa Bay Live Rock that does culture rock legally from the bay. Problem is you end up with all kinds of pest critters. I have yet to know anyone that has been happy with TBLR that has purchased from them.

There is a LFS in Longwood that sells LR for $3.99 a pound when you buy 50 pounds or more. I think it's $4.49 or $5 for less than 50. Oceans direct and they're on eBay as Walt Smith Live Rock. I don't think anyone can touch their LR prices and it's Figi premium.

tampa bay saltwater actually closed there retail store and all they do now is web orders i got some rock from them a couple years ago as base and i heard about them so i cleaned the rock really well. THey had prices that were reasonably cheap compared to other places

Marine Warehouse on Hillsborough Ave. has some pretty nice rocks (tonga) I think. The stores real nice too, tons of fish.
