Lymphocystis This viral infection causes infected cells to enlarge greatly. Initially, Lymphocystis infection is sometimes confused with Cryptocaryonosis because it also manifests as white spots. Butterfly fish and angelfish are the most often infected. This condition often clears up as the fish gains overall health. Usually, only one or two fish are affected, and the virus is not particularly contagious. Some common names are Cauliflower disease and viral disease.
Visible symptoms include the following:
• Irregular cauliflower-like spots of varying sizes, usually on the fins and body;
most often the spots are white.
• Spots become larger than with Cryptocaryonosis.
• The infection can sometimes be seen on the mouth or gills.
• Secondary bacterial infections in some fish that are severely infected
