You ALWAYS need biological filtration. And if that tank was drained or the filter been dry for more than 2 hours, your bacteria colony is dead. You can add biological filtration by simply adding a sponge inside your filter or right bellow your filter just before the water return to the aquarium, but not touching the water surface. This will be a good bed for bacteria to establish.
