I prefer metal halide but as it's been said, if you chose soft coral, power compact will be just fine. I have a coralife light on my 25 gallon and it's a great lamp.
Also, you could have have a look to the LED light made my PFO Lightning. They have one that is an equivlent to metal halide (the solaris) and one equivalent to power compact (the galileo). They cost more at first but you save lot for a long time (40% less power, you can change the light colour at will, produce no heat, lights last for life and have many different mode like sunset, sunrise, full moon, no moon, cloudy day, sunny day, etc ).
